Shanghai Stories. 2018

First I wanted to show you my final work for Chinese Directing class. I had to shoot myself, use my script and edit myself. I simply used the idea of Marina Abramovic and her performance «Rhythm 0«.  Same performance inspired Shaia LaBeouf  and his «I am sorry«. In my performance or short movie I’m trying to maintain the idea of cruelty of humans nature when you don’t resist. It is a famous experiment (also shown in the movie «Das Experiment» based on a FICTIONAL experiment (highlighted ONLY in 2018)) but there is no real proof, only fiction and performance. You also cannot prove some guests were not set up. Here one by one my guests become more aware of my passiveness and try to use it in a harsh way. Don’t read too much, just watch.

Shanghai stories. 14

Hi again guys. It’s been a while. Hard month, busy days. But today I will share one more video we made at the beginning of this year.
Our topic in Chinese directing class was DATE. Not just a day — date with someone. I didn’t do anything there except editing. I spent almost the whole day and half the night for editing, changing music, changing voice, correcting voice over. Polishing took too much time and at the end I had to re-edit some of the elements. However the result was good, from my opinion. Anyways it’s a student short movie. The whole concept was interesting.

Let’s watch (above) and break it down!

Shanghai stories. 13

Today I will tell you something about the first short movie I released in March. You may watch it above.

1. The beginning

We had to make a final project for Chinese performing arts subject. We could make a research or make something creative. So, me and my friend and classmate Sarunas from Lithuania decided to make a creative part because it could be good experience to shoot first short movie, present our project to the public. We made a quick draft and sent it to our mentor. She told we need to explain more about events happening and only then start making the movie. We did it, created detailed scene plan. At the end created a group in Wechat to gather people. We needed to shoot on weekends, 2-3 hours each week one or two weekends. No rehearsals, no experience in acting was required.

2. The idea.

The idea covers feelings of any ordinary young person coming from smaller town or city to Shanghai. There are huge expectations of many young people, but they face reality: it’s hard to work, it’s hard to earn money, expenses are high, conditions are tough, so, one day you may realize your life is passing by and maybe you’re not that sane anymore. I admitted to our mentor, that I really believe all of us, people in big cities are insane. In our own way. To express the idea it we wanted to show scenes in real life, then scenes in «inner world», the world of thoughts of main character.

The story refers to your Chinese, but also is very applicable to any young foreigner living in a megapolis.

Japanese stories. 07

At last we reached the final point of our trip to Japan. It took half a year to write all the posts. But it worth that. Yesterday I went to visa center and took a guideline for getting Japanese visa. I plan to visit this country during Chinese New Year. And I plan to go to some other places. Depends on my finances and work pressure.

In Yokohama in January I had only half a day. I surfed the internet about what to do, how to get to the Haneda airport. So, I was not far away from Yokohama to be honest staying on Shinbashi station. It took only 10 minutes to get there. Or so. It was a lunch break — many people left the offices and went to the nearest cafes. Same to pupils. With my backpack I went to the harbor.

Japanese stories. 05

Slowly we’re getting closer to the end of my story about travel in Japan. Last time I told you about Shirakawa-go, small village not far from Nagoya. I wasn’t impressed much and in the evening left back to Nagoya. I had one night to stay and then go to Fujiyoshida by bus company «Willer Express». The hostel is called Wasabi Nagoya Ekimae. Very close to the railway and bus station — super convenient for travelers.

Fujiyoshida is a small town near mount Fuji. In winter it’s snowing almost everyday, but the whole place look very clean. Every night citizens and road service workers clean the snow. Small town has several malls, restaurants, hotels and guesthouses, lake and three tourist routes around the place.

I have several days left before my flight to see parents, so, I will try to push myself as hard as I can to finish Japanese posts and some of  the posts about what the hell I was doing all these months and why I was so silent here in the blog. It’s gonna be fun. I promise.

The picture to the post is the screenshot from anime Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

Japanese stories. 03

Hi again!

Well, again I failed to fulfill my promise. Disappeared for a long time. What happened last month? The most annoying and major event happened was the crash of my HDD. I lost tons of photos and videos, software, documents. Photos, music, films I backuped as well as documents. But I didn’t back them up recently. So, here is the only backup of my Japanese photos from Osaka, Kyoto, beginning of the trip.

As you know these kind of events change the plans. As I lost most of my footage for the amateur movies we make, that was disappointing. Anyways I’m back and will tell you about my trip to Nagoya.
